Another way to say it is, every patient is different. That's why "experts" irk me so much when they pontificate that they NEVER do this or they ALWAYS do that. Sometimes, something out of the ordinary works great on a particular patient, while something routine won't. Not everyone acts the same way. Which means, protocol-based menu-driven medicine (to keep the "bad" doctors from screwing up) is doomed to NOT WORK of a small but significant portion of the patient population. However, mandating usage of some protocol or menu ties the hands of the good doctor who pays attention to the details. (I guess that's where you can say the devil comes in. . . .)

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
