Re: Early glucose screeningFrom: Dr. John Provatopoulos B.Sc. M.D.C.M. F.R.S.C. (johnprov@sympatico.ca)Mon Nov 1 19:04:51 2004
I send my high risk patients after 12 weeks, my high risk patients usually have had gestional diabetes with a large baby and are currently obese, and unfortunetly some of these also had a prevoius intra uterine death. I usally send them for fasting 1,2 hour after 50gm, our screen is fasting and 1 hour. I would say 50 % of my high risk patients are postive and about 25% go on to insulin with endocrinlogist support our endocrinologists still haven't taken the leap to oral therapy. Does it make a difference I honestly can't say I am sure.

Take care, John

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
