Early glucose screening

How is everyone screening for women with risk factors for pregestational diabetes in early pregnancy (ie obesity, prior GDM, family history) The technical bulletin states they need to be screened but doesn't really say what test needs to be ordered.

My thought is that the ADA criteria for diagnosing diabetes outside of pregnancy, either fasting glucose or a 2 hr GCT should work. I'm not sure the 1 hr 50gm glucola is the right test even though it's the one we are most familiar with.

Any thoughts?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
