I think that almost any competent laparoscopist could quickly acquire the skills to perform a LSH in less than an hour on average. I have done about 110 over the past 2 years. The average time for the first 10 was about 75 minutes, but since then my average is 45-50, with some as short as 30. It is NOT a difficult procedure if you have basic laparoscopy skills and a good morcellator. The only "new" skills you need involve the amputation of the cervix from the fundus, and using the morcellator itself.

1. harmonic scalpel 2. no, but I do cover it with Interceed 3. bipolar cautery

cannot complete a LSH in one hour. I also assume that many general gynecologists could do a TAH or TVH within an hour or thereabouts. The reimbursement rate in Georgia for hysterectomies of all types ( excluding radicals), is about 850 to 950 dollars. Soooo... it may be cost effective for the physician to do the procedure they are most adept at, in the shortest time, rather than a "foreveroscopy". At our institution we have to present proof of a training session in the use of the power morcellator - as you know these injuries never occur with TAH or TVH. >

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
