Question for doctors who oversee a CNM/NP clinic

A few months ago, a doctor posted that he was approached by a clinic opening to oversee everything, take care of the complications and do the deliveries. I don't remember who it was, but I am in this situation now, having been offered the wonderful opportunity to open my own prenatal clinic for mostly immigrants. In my mind, I remember the OB/GYN posted here that he would be paid 7% of the revenue and bill out c/sections only on his own.

I would like to know if this amount is considered reasonable or not, vs paying say a monthly or annual fee as medical director, say $10,000 a year and then paying per hour for the doc to see patients in my clinic once or twice a week , and then paying $450-500 per delivery. I have my whole staff lined up, the pediatrician who will be renting me the office in his 3 office building will start renovating it soon and now need to look for a doctor for my clinic who preferably already has a MediCal number so we can start seeing patients right away. I'm a little late in interviewing new grads as the ones who finished their residencies 6/30 all have jobs. I have thought of locum tenens but not sure how that works. I know I'll be successful from day one but the first doc I asked wanted $10K a month PLUS $5K to rent a beach house-no way, Jose, when I'm just starting out!!

Any thoughts or hints would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to insult the docs I ask if 7% is below the norm for a fairly large community. Feel free to email me privately at gin11153@aol.com if you feel more comfortable doing that, but I'd really like to know what you seasoned docs would accept if you were approached with this situation. I am still toying with the idea of going to a distance women's health nurse practitioner program I am accepted into but think it might be to my advantage to concentrate fully on opening my clinic for now.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
