Hey Y'all, Attended an interesting meeting last night. Montana has only two carriers for medmal insurance and the predominant company is Utah Mutual (UMIA) out of Salt Lake City. It is one of the physician owned insurers or so called "bedpan mutuals". A representative from their board of directors, who is also a physician in our community, gave a presentation regarding the state of the company and medical malpractice in the country. There were several points of interest: - The company is doing well, but "Montana has a malpractice problem". Only two cases went to trial last year in the state, but based on state case law, adopting automobile insurance law to medical malpractice, it is tying defense attorney's hands, forcing settlements - called "Judicial something or other..." - As of July 1st, premiums are going up from 50 - 100%, particularly for "Primary Care Providers" - remember when we all wanted to be designated as primary care providers. - This particular board member stated that after attending meetings, both with this company and nationally, the only solution he sees to the medical malpractice issue is for a "single payer system" - and he is a Republican. I am thinking of an alternative: MONTY'S BAIT & TACKLE SHOP. Lynn

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
