Online Bachelor's degree in SonographyFrom: DuBose, Terry (DuboseTerryJ@uams.edu)Mon Apr 19 11:07:10 2004
As most of you realize, Sonography is a relatively new profession. The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography gave their first written examinations in 1976. In those days there were almost no schools and nearly everyone did on the job training (OJT) in sonography. Slowly more and more schools have developed, and today there are over 100 accredited DMS schools (see www.JRCDMS.org <http://www.jrcdms.org/> ), about 90% of these being two year junior colleges giving certificates or Associate Degrees. As a result, today few sonographers have a Bachelor's degree. For this reason the University of Arkansas for Medical sciences has developed an online degree completion for a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sciences for ARDMS certified sonographers. See: http://www.uams.edu/chrp/dms . This degree plan will allow them to keep their current job while earning their degree from the convenience of their home. If you know an ARDMS Certified sonographer who would like to earn their Bachelor of Science in DMS, please point them to this web page: Thanks, Terry Terry J. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
