Actually, we have an 'Ultrasound Club" which, for a fee, entitles patients ultrasounds whenever they request. It is not cheap, but patients can come in more than once, especially if the baby in not in the best position at any one single time. The club is not considered part of routine care (although the ultrasounds are performed during routine check ups.)

The 32 week scan you do may not cost you money, but it does cost you time.

Garry I do the scan while I talk to the pt and it is schedule in our appt template as a reg OB visit. I push record on their tape when I enter and off when I leave; usually less than 5 minutes. My situation is unique and I certainly would not extrapolate this to anyone else.

I would recommend having the patient make the check out to the sono company or you will be violating managed care contracts. (but then you're violating the self referral laws).

I hope it works out for you.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
