OB: Keepsake ultrasoundsFrom: Garry E. Siegel, M.D. (garrys@mindspring.com)Fri Apr 16 17:04:19 2004
Dear all: My practice is about to allow keepsake or portrait ultrasounds with 3D/4D due to consumer demand, as there are free-standing entities in our immediate area who offer the same. You would be surprised at how many people will spend $100 to $200 there, but seem to have either Medicaid or trouble with their bills! ACOG Today (April 2004) has a lead story on it, and, in essence, the FDA doesn't like it when done without physician order, and ACOG's head honchos pretty much say it is OK to do it, because if not, people are going elsewhere anyway. Thus, I've just written a proposed policy for it. Do any of you have any thoughts/policies/hints etc.? If so, please email privately. Garry

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
