Re: post menopausal lactationFrom: Anna Meenan, MD (annam@uic.edu)Wed Mar 31 16:44:19 2004
Has she ever been pregnant or lactated premenopausally? There are anecdotal reports of grandmas nursing their grandchildren in third-world societies when mom dies in childbirth. I would imagine she would be able to lactate after giving birth to twins, though i can't imagine anyone having the energy to do so after giving birth to twins at age 54, presumably by c-sec. Yikes! I'm 5 years younger and just the thought of it makes me tired. Find her a good lactation consultant.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
