Unfortunately, you can't have it both ways, Heidi. > Blood transfusion and antibiotics are "medical advances" that have > clearly made childbirth as well as life in general more safe. But, Dr. Glazerman, neither of these advances requires delivery to be planned for a hospital, and in the overwhelming majority of cases they are not needed at all. I never said medicine has no place in birth. My original plan, from the time I was a child, was to be an OB or a Neonatologist, however, having been part of the system 8 years ago, after choosing nurse-midwifery instead, and having watched some awfully scary political and administrative decisions that were not based in any way on the needs of mothers and babies, I decided not to work within that system. I am lucky enough that my mentors have excellent relationships with respectful doctors who know where their area of expertise lies, just as we know where ours stops.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
