Re: preterm ROM - reformed cervix?From: Sue Smith (midwifesue@charter.net)Fri Mar 12 14:09:24 2004
Joe, I haven't seen any other replies, so I'll jump in. I have seen this quite a few times. The most dramatic change was from a stretchy 8 cms at home to a tight 4 on transfer to the hospital (for a planned hospital birth). I did labor support/monitoring for about 15 years, mostly for women who wanted to stay home as long as was reasonable, and it was typical to see a reduction of about 2 cms between home and hospital. I think anxiety and the whole disruption of labor while changing environments and getting settled in at hospital were the probable cause. The losses tended to be made up quickly once mom was settled in and admission procedures were over. Since this is my first post, though I've been reading the list for a couple of years, I'll introduce myself. I am a CPM in Massachusetts and have been attending homebirths for 22 years, have taught for various midwifery courses over the years, and am a QE for NARM (North American Registry of Midwives). Thanks to the list for all the information -and the occasional laugh.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
