Re: Cord clamping was Decision favors girlFrom: Len2976@aol.comFri Feb 27 05:09:57 2004
Unfortunately there are techniques that are learned habits that we have to retrain ourselves to do differently now. Double cord clamping and getting PH samples while trying to take care of both a mother and newborn with respiratory distress is only one example (is there not an OR tech that can get the blood during a C/S?). I'm showing my age, but I remember instances years ago as both an OB nurse and a CNM where I (as well as obstetricians I worked with) thought nothing of doing a precipitous delivery without gloves. I remember as things were changing a couple of instances where I had to push gloves at my OB Chief (in the AF) when he was ready to attend to a patient without gloves. NOW even if the head is half out--its "get gloves" first--its now become second nature. Lenora McCall, CNM

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
