Re: anatomy screen ultrasoundsFrom: Elrod Glen Maj 3 MDG/SGOB (Glen.Elrod@ELMENDORF.af.mil)Thu Feb 12 10:02:25 2004
I find that pretty hard to believe. At our facility we were not offering screening ultrasounds for nearly a year, partly because of manning problems, partly because of the lack of supporting evidence. Beginning summer 2003, the Department of Defense came out with an "Uncomplicated pregnancy guide" for obstetrical care. They also did site surveys to see why women would rather be seen in the private sector versus the military system. At our facility, the prime reason to go off base would have been the lack of second trimester ultrasounds. Because of the availability of civilian OB care now offered to our women without a statement of nonavailability from the base, we have tried to recapture those women back into our system. As part of this, we now are essentially mandated to offer screening ultrasounds to all pregnant women. Glen D. Personally, I do find them necessary. Is anyone having similar situations, and more importantly, strategies to fix this problem?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
