Not necessarily so in the USA--here, I'd venture to say, the majority of supra-cervical hysterectomies are done because patients demand that it be left in situ.

Yeah, remove it is the right option, but anyone who has ever tried to take out the cervix after a subtotal will remember that the subtotal was probably done in the first place because it was difficult to get at the cervix. Unless there is some pathology in the stump it may not be necessary to take it out, and if you are going to put in a hysteroscope, you just slide it in under continuous vision watching all the time as it advances, thus there shouldn't be a problem about what is likely to happen at the fundus of the stump. Any thoughts?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
