Re: New question-fistula and delivery routeFrom: Braun, R. Daniel (rbraun@iupui.edu)Thu Nov 13 04:22:54 2003
I don't think there is any real science on this issue. I think most people feel that a cesarean decreases the risk of getting a 4th degree and hence decreases the risk of getting another fistula. Dan -----Original Message----- From: ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net [mailto:ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net] On Behalf Of Jay Kulkin Sent: Wednesday, November 12, 2003 11:05 PM To: Multiple recipients of list OB-GYN-L Subject: New question-fistula and delivery route A patient has a rectal fistula repair (etiology of the fistula not childbirth or inflammatory bowel disease related) and is now, a few years later, pregnant. She asks what the recommended route of delivery should be. I'm looking for references or articles to help her. In my training we would have recommended primary C/S but I want to know if there is different thinking now. All thoughts and references appreciated. Jay Jay M. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
