I've heard of FemHRT used in cases like this, too

Listers, Let me end the November slump. I have a 13 y.o. who had onset of menses at age 8. She has had normal development of secondary sex characteristics. She had reasonably regular periods until a year ago, then developed amenorrhea. In addition, she has developed some mild hursuitism. She is not sexually active and had a negative pregnancy test. I gave her provera and she had a positive response to this. I haven't checked any steroid levels because the findings are not that pronounced.

My question is at the age of 13, would cycling with oral contraceptives be the best option. I am not so concerned about the amenorrhea, but she would certainly like to limit the androgenic effects, particularly dermatologic manifestations. What about metformin? Lynn

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
