Anna--

Your story reminded me of a risk management conference I attended several years ago where the topic of shulder dystocia was discussed.

The obstetrician/attorney (I think it was Jeff Phelan) giving the lecture discussed a delivery he had done with a huge family in attendance with one member video-taping the delivery.

He encountered a shoulder dystocia. Instead of having the video stopped, he turned to the camera and shouted--"shoulder dystocia!" He then proceded to follow the steps as outlined in OB texts, announcing before each step, "I am now. . . . . "

According to him everything turned out OK--but he used the video to his advantage to show he managed it appropriately in the event it didn't.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
