Re: Post Partum IUD insertionFrom: Betsy Hyde (elishyde@mindspring.com)Mon Sep 15 19:48:35 2003
how early is the *absolute* earliest you would insert an IUD PP? When I was in Ecuador this summer, doing a gyn/FP/primary care clinic, there were two young women who wanted IUDs. They were 14 and 15. One was 11 days PP, and I think the other was 3 weeks PP, or thereabouts. Both were breast feeding. In the US I would not even consider inserting an IUD prior to 6 weeks, but these young women didn't have many options. The other midwife and I hemmed and hawed about the R/B/A, but decided not to do it. I'm not sure whether we made the right decision or not.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
