I usually don't pay a whole lot of attention to those things because I'm on salary from the U, but I noticed an entry for Vag. delivery and it seemed low. I checked with our coder/biller and asked her about reimbursement from various sources. Turns out, Cigna pays me $31.52 LESS than Illinois Public Aid does for a vaginal delivery (59409). I did a little more investigating and found that the local hospital's PPO plan pays $4.12 LESS, One Health pays $67 LESS, and HMO Illinois pays a whopping $187.59 LESS than Illinois Public Aid does for a veginal delivery only. In fact, my coder and I searched for an insurance company that pays us MORE than IPA does and were unable to. Are we suckers or what? The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
