Re: Analgesia for Vag HystsFrom: Michael J. Wolpmann, MD (elvisdoc@comcast.net)Sat Sep 6 07:59:29 2003
Hi Lynn, Sounds like overkill and possibly could create unseen bleeding after cuff is closed. As you said, TVH and LAVH typically have minimal postop pain. Toradol has proven to be the best pain med for postop pain IME. I give Toradol 30mg iv in Recovery and give them Vicodin po postop with Toradol 15mg q 6 for breakthrough pain in the first 24 hours and find it works well. Many go home the next day on OTC Motrin. I find that Anesthesia wants to give them PCA's and continuous epidurals that tend to keep them in bed, not ambulating, and thus in the hospital longer than they need to be. Although they mean well, their perspective is not congruent with ours or the patient's, many times. good luck, Michael

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
