Re: IUD & CINFrom: Dr. John Provatopoulos B.Sc. M.D.C.M. F.R.S.C. (johnprov@sympatico.ca)Fri Sep 5 16:45:54 2003
John, if things like GC, Chlamydia, actinomyces?, have been ruled out, why should her fallopian tubes be blocked? Yes, HPV is an STD, but does that mean she should have the IUD removed? Is there a relationship between HPV and upper genital tract disease? Number one risk factor of high risk HPV is exposure to multiple sex partners, number one contraindication to use of IUD exposure to multiple sex partners, unfortunetalely you don't have multiple partners to be exposed to them, when this 20 year old presents at 30 with tubal factor infertility you will be judged with the retroscope and be asked for a contribution to the IVF fund.

Take care, John

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
