Why remove and replace the IUD? Why do you have to have a string there? Just cut it with the LEEP and leave the IUD there.

1. Repeat in 6 months if reliable patient. If not reliable, see 2 and 3 2. Remove IUD, LEEP, replace IUD 3. Same as 2

What would you do?

20-something patient with a Paraguard IUD (new version of copper T for those not familiar with the brand name)

Pap: ASCUS postive for high risk HPV

Colpo & biopsies done with IUD in place. (results pending)

What would you do if: 1 - biopsies show CIN 1 with negative ECC 2 - biopsies show CIN 2 with negative ECC 3 - Biopsies show CIN 3 with negative ECC

Any other thoughts?

Has anyone ever done a cryo with the IUD in place? Would the "string" become brittle and break?

Would you remove the IUD before (or during) any treatment?

Since it still has most of its 10 year functional life left - would you try to get a replacement IUD from the company - or charge for a new one - if you decide to take it out and put a new one back in?

Thanks

Joanne
