Acute pielonephritis in pregnancyFrom: Ricardo Savaris (rsavaris@hcpa.ufrgs.br)Tue Sep 2 22:46:42 2003
Dear all, i have a question about the manegament of high urinary tract infection during the pregnancy. We start with ampicilin 1-2 IV qid after the urine specimem was taken. The problem is that few patients got better, despise the UROCULTURE shows a organism resistent to ampicilim. What should i do, send the patient home with ampicilin (500mg qid), or use another antibiotics that cover the bacteria (i.e., nitrofurantoin)? Or 3rd option, send the patient home with ampicilin, but at the same dosis that she was receiving at the hospital? Thank you

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
