Re: CF carrier testingFrom: Len2976@aol.comFri Aug 29 21:44:01 2003
Since we're offering the test to patients when we do the AFP, most who take the AFP are doing the CF screen. With about 60 new OBs a month and the risk of 1:25 to 1:30 in the white population, we are seeing one or two positives a month. Most patients who have a positive screen have not been overly upset because we tell them before they get the screen that even if they are positive their baby will not have CF unless the father is positive. We have advised those patients to have the FOC tested. Those with insurance do and the others have not. We then notify the pediatrician. Lenora McCall, CNM

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
