Re: Dr. Hale and the AMAFrom: Gordon (obgyndoc@swbell.net)Fri Aug 8 18:50:02 2003
Gerald, As a section Vice Chair, I have attended several ACOG District VII meetings also attended by Dr. Norman Gant. Have also had an opportunity to see Dr. Hale and Dr. Gant interact at several Annual meetings. I have also had the opportunity to observe Dr. Hale in his role as a Delegate to the AMA House of Delegates. I get the distinct impression that their opinions are personal and not intended to be institutional policy. I think, perhaps they should make some kind of 'disclaimer' when they publish this kind of thing. With regard to the effectiveness of the AMA, I agree they have made more than their share of poor decisions. However, I do not agree with throwing stones at them and 'name calling' as the way to change it. If the AMA does not represent you and your like thinking colleagues, I suggest the cause is more ours than theirs. And, the only way to change it, is to swell the ranks of the AMA with colleagues who are willing to become activists, take the time to become effective in the county and state organizations that comprise the AMA at the national level and force change upon them. Nothing will ever be accomplished by leaving them to their own devices. My $.02 worth,

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
