Re: alternatives to medical practice

Currently i don't have to worry about the high cost of practicing medicine, since I'm an employee (State of Illinois). I actually seriously considered switching careers last year when the local school district considered offering a fast-track program for teacher certification to folks with a college degree willing to teach math or science. Not enough people signed up, so they dropped it. I think I would have done it if offered.

I do plan to retire in 5-6 years. The pay may not be much in academic medicine, but the retirement pension is great. If I still have my sanity in 5 years, I plan to start enjoying life.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
