Re: informed consent/ nursing certification answersFrom: GIN11153@aol.comMon Jul 28 18:40:23 2003
Thanks to all for your input on this. Seems like the doc may lose this case. First I am certified by the NCC, the National Certification Corporation that gives the OB , women's health and neonatal nurse certification exams for AWHONN, the national organization of OB/GYN/Neonatal nurses. The test I took, high risk OB, is no longer offered as I was told that not enough people could pass it, but it's taken longer than expected to formulate a new exam. I am also going to be a student OB nurse practitioner in September, taking a 9 month long certificate program here in Southern California. Second I am a legal nurse consultant, working with attorneys around the US on their OB medical malpractice cases. Have done this for 6 years and am starting to become more defense oriented as there are just too many frivilous lawsuits filed. Attorneys don't seem to understand that in OB and other medical arenas, a maloccurrance is not necessarily malpractice! The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
