The general surgery literature at least shows that once daily high dose gent and once daily 1 gram metronidazole (IV or po) works as well as the mutliple dose versions of these 2 antibiotics. However, ampicillin should be dosed q4 hours which is labor intensive. Gail Waldby, MD

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
