Tubs in labor

Our hospital has a jacuzzi tub for laboring women. We only have one at the present time. Current hospital policy does not allow a woman to get into the jacuzzi after rupture of membranes. We are in the process of building a new OB wing and the manager would like to put a tub in every room as well as change the policy to allow for women with ruptured membranes to continue to labor in the tub. We do not do water births nor is that in the plans.

Meetings have been held regarding the issue of tubbing after ROM. Research has been reviewed.

For those of you who have tubs in your L/D area, are women allowed to go in after ROM?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
