We have a daughter, age 12 who has been diagnosed with a Mullerian anomalie. The left side of her uterus is separated from the right side with a septum. If we are accurate in understanding the situation, the fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix, etc. are attached to the right side of the uterus. After ultra sounds, exploratory surgery of the uterus, examinations, and an MRI this is the diagnosis. It has been recommended to us by an endocrine reproductive specialist at Hershey Medical Center to have the septum removed that is separating the 2 sides of the uterus. I also recently spoke with a doctor from John Hopkins Med. Ctr., who briefly mentioned you as being internationally known for your knowledge and experience in this area of medicine and surgical procedures. I know you can only form an opinion based upon the accuracy of my information to you, however, my concern really is not with the diagnosis, but with the best surgical procedure to ensure future fertility, as well as to correct the complications with her mentral cycles. Also, as this appears to be a very abnormal case, how do we confidently choose the doctor who will perform the surgery? It's not like we can ask, "How many times have you performed this surgery?", because most of the doctors are going to say, "Never!" Please advise. Thank you.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
