Re: 21 with Endo. and PCOS

Hi Angie,

I have no idea what PCOS is (I tried looking it up on the internet, but didn't find anything) but I would just like to concur with Renee. I have been a longtime sufferer of endo, it was supressed while I was on the pill for about 7 years and resurfaced with a vengence when I went off at the advice of my breast specialist due to being high risk for breast cancer. After my surgery in June my gyn wanted me back on the pill, but my breast specialist was still against it (I don't mean to imply he was deminding that I not be on it, he is very concerned for my health and understands quality of life issues) and I just wasn't comfortable with it either. It didn't make sense to me to put more estrogen in my body when I already had too much. So... I went on the endo diet, started using high quality multi-vitamins and liver detox regimen, progesterone cream (I currently use Progonol, but the dosage might be a little high--cured my insmonia, but leaves me a little sleepy during the day-- for me so I may switch to Progestacare or Pro-gest--all three are between $20-25 and easily available on the internet and some health food stores). I have seen a marked difference in how I feel. I was formerly a drug popping woman during my period/PMS and often missed a day of work almost every month because of it. Since I started these changes I have only taken 3 naproxen and 4 motrin (over the course of 4 periods). I recently started on high grade fish oil (Mega Omega) and I have no virtually NO problems being on my period right now. No PMS, no mood swings, no cramping, no bloating, my period is much lighter, I could go on and on... In fact, the only warning sign I had that I was going to start my period is the calendar I keep which gives me an idea of when I might start. Oh, and I did have some food cravings.

So if you've exhausted all other medical options, I strongly encourage you to give the natural approach a try. I see a naturopathic doctor (which is out of pocket for me, but my ND does accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield, but i have Kaiser) to guide me through all of this. The expense is well worth being pain free. Renee recommended going to Dr. Lee's site, which is an excellent reference. Lori, an avid poster on this site, has a great website, http://www.theendoclub.com, which is an excellent resource for women seeking alternate therapy.

I know you are going through a very difficult time, wishing you all the best.

Melanie
