Re: bowel symptoms-To Chris

Chris, No worries! I don't remember a thing about the procedure, nor did I feel anything. They put you in "twilight", meaning you are not completely under, but are not aware of anything. My gastric Doc told me they use the date rape drug you hear so much about on the news. (dont' remember the name) At my pre-op, he told me I would be feeling good and he was right! I don't remember much of anything from the entire day. I remember bits and pieces, like driving home and insisting my husband stop at Arby's because I was starving!! It was actually a nice feeling when I woke up. I just was very relaxed and sleepy. I was home by 10:00 AM and pretty much slept all day. I was not in any pain at all from it afterwards, so it must not be very invasive. I was worried I would wake up with a sore butt!

The worst part was the prep the night before. I started the laxative at about 4:00 that afternoon and spent most of that evening and night in the bathroom. Not fun, but not that bad either. Make sure you follow the directions and don't eat anything but liquids the day before. I ate a small amount of food that day at lunch because it was the day I was celebrating Christmas with some family (Dec. 29th) and I was hosting. I think the little solid food I ate that day made the prep part worse. All in all though, it was not bad at all and now I won't be afraid to have another one. Doc said all was fine and that I don't need to have another one until I am approaching 50. I'm 32 now, so I won't need another one for quite some time unless something is wrong.

If you have any other questions or just want to talk, feel free to email me direct at work: ameyer@dbllaw.com.

You will be fine so don't worry. It really is nothing. Hang in there!

Hugs! Amy
