Kristy, Where are you doing those sitz baths? Are you puting the pan in the bathtub? You need to be able to SIT DOWN into the water and take all the weight off your legs and arms. Are you getting cold? Does it just feel like an uncomfortable position? Do you have plenty of privacy and lots of time? Is the room warm enough and not drafty?

Sitz baths can be great ... or they can feel downright dorky....

But you are trying to increase circulation down there and promote healing that way-- and you can't do that if you are COLD and uncomfortable. It's gotta be RELAXING for it to work. And you have to keep the water WARM (and keep adding to it to keep it warm.)

How much $/money does the water actually cost for a reasonably deep and hot bath? Have you ever figured it up? Can you get your water bill and figure out how much you pay per gallon and figure out how much you need for a decent bath? Maybe the bath would be a better idea. And maybe it's not as expensive as you think. Especially if you can substitute one of them for your shower. Just a couple ideas for your consideration....

Why did the doc recommend baking soda? Does it feel good diring and immediately after the baths? If so, then I'd say you are on the right track and if anything, you should increase the # per day.

So, now I'm done "preaching" and I'll hop down off this soapbox and just wish you the best of luck. And HUGS. And whatever else it takes. Oh, another thought: Did the doc give any other options besides baking soda? Did she say how much baking soda per gallon of water? Are you measuring both the water and the baking soda?

Good luck, whatever you decide! Elaine in IL
