While some doctors can perform endo surgery through a lap, some are more comfortable with opening up the patient more. There are advantages and disadvantages. If the endo is involved with the bowel, the doc might want to have an easier way to move around. Also, if you have had several laps and the result has not been positive, the doc might move to a laparotomy.

The lap to some is still a diagnostic procedure and the laparotomy is how they conduct surgery. I don't want to tell you one way is better than another - it depends on how you feel, the skill of your doctor, the extent of the endo etc. But there are some that perform laps on extensive endo.
