Hi Elaine my sister had very heavy periods strting in her mid teens; with huge clots. She's bleed for days, sometimes weeks, on end. She had several D & C's, including a couple emergency ones cause the bleeding was so bad. Also had bad back pains, leg pains, severe abdo and leg cramps, fatigue, etc etc. Unrelated, but only had one working ovary and a cyst the size of a grapefruit. He husband had really low sperm count. She had to fight to get a hyst; doc didn't want to do it cause she was young and they had no kids. She had huge fibroids, one hanging from the top of her uterus that bled almost constantly, and her uterus was very enlarged because the fibroids kept growing.; one was 19 cm. She finally got a doc to agree to do the hyst just days after she turned 30. This was three years ago, and its made a HUGE difference to her quality of life. We joke that they've been able to do renovations on their house with all the money they saved not buying pads and tampons - cause she went throuh those like they were kleenex. Hope this helps some, and I hope you give your doc a piece of your mind!!!! I think its inexcusable to keep info like that from a patient. Take care, and let me know when you're available for the pain party!! :) luv, Amy
