Re: A few questionsFrom: Franca (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Jul 11 02:49:21 1999
I had a lap on June 16th. I started very light exercise the last week in June. At about 12 days after the surgery I started having some pain in my lower right side. But it was weird, it was just under my farthest right incision. The incision itself was not sore on the surface, and I could tell that the pain was not internal, so I figured that maybe it had to do with the incision and suture under the skin. There was kind of a swelling there, too, that I didn't have in my belly button incision or the one directly below it. I asked my surgeon about it at my 2-week post op appt. and he said that was fairly normal, especially with the incisions on the side where there are more blood vessels than along the midline. Everything checked out internally and I had no pain with the pelvic exam, but the area under the incision was still hurting. That went on for about a week and then suddenly went away. I think my abdomen finally stretched out a bit or something and there was no more painful pulling under that incision. Could that be what is happening with you, or is your pain inside? If you think your pain is not internal and just has to do with your incision, I wouldn't be too concerned. But ask your doc anyway! Have you had a post-op appt.? It's probably not too soon for light exercise if your doc says it's OK, but take it easy with golfing and stop if it hurts. With the swing you may be using some muscles that are still a bit weak. Walking should be good, though! I did all stepper workouts for my first week and a half back at my workouts because my abdomen didn't like the exercise bike. I felt best standing or lying down -- sitting for long periods and bending and straightening were not good. (Tying my shoelaces hurt my incision.) But now I feel fine and can do almost everything except I still have to take it easy working the lower abdominal muscles. I'm sorry I don't know anything much about diet. Best wishes on your recovery! Hugs,
-- Franca
