Re: 2 yrs and feeling well/no pain!!!From: Franca (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Jun 26 14:11:48 1999
Hi, Debbie, I don't know if you can ever consider yourself to be "cured" of endo. I think it's more like being in remission. I think the success of hysterectomy depends a lot on where all of your endo is located and how good your surgeon is at removing *all* of it. With the endo cleaned up and the reproductive organs gone, chances are good that no new endo will grow, but as with everything else about this disease there are no guarantees. Still, I felt for me at my age (40 at the time) hysterectomy was the best choice, and the only one that offered the possibility of permament pain relief. All of the other options offer, at best, only temporary relief. I can't speak for Linda, but when I had my right ovary removed this month via laparoscopy (uterus and other ovary were removed a year ago) my surgeon had a good look around and said that no new spots of endo had grown, even though I had kept one ovary! I decided it was time for the ovary to go because a tumor had grown on it which needed to be removed. But I was very encouraged by the fact that after more than a year no new endo had grown. I feel pretty confident that I will stay in remission now. Take care, Debbie, and good luck with your decision. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any more questions about hysterectomy.
