Re: allergic to thyroid medication?

Hey Eve,

I'm assuming by 120mcg of thyroid, you mean Glandular thyroid? I can't imagine that would be giving you problems. The Synthroid is synthetic but supposedly identical to the T4 produced by the body. But it also contains some inactive ingredients...Inactive Ingredients (SYNTHROID Tablets): acacia, confectioner's sugar (contains corn starch), lactose, magnesium stearate, povidone, talc. The following are the color additives by tablet strength: Strength (mcg) Color Additive(s)

25 FD&C Yellow No. 6 50 None 75 FD&C Red No. 40 88 FD&C Blue No. 1,  FD&C Yellow No. 6,  D&C Yellow No. 10 100 D&C Yellow No. 10  FD&C Yellow No. 6

I'm assuming you're taking a 100mcg pill...if you have any allergies to dyes, you may want to ask your doctor to give you 2 50mcg pills as they have no added dyes.

There is no well-documented evidence of true allergic or idiosyncratic reactions to thyroid hormone.

According to their website, SYNTHROID is also contraindicated in the patients with uncorrected adrenal insufficiency, as thyroid hormones increase tissue demands for adrenocortical hormones and may thereby precipitate acute adrenal crisis...this could have something to do with your exhaustion....have you had your adrenals checked? My husband did his last month with a sputum test from Great Smokies Labs in Asheville...they test both the cortisol and DHEA levels...very informative.

Other than all that, you could be having a problem transferring your T4 (synthroid) into T3...the exhaustion and dry skin can be symptoms of that...along with a low temperature (mine used to run 97.2 on average)...like I think I told you before, you can find out by checking your temperature 3 hours after you get up...3 hours later and 3 hours later and then averaging them...if you're below 98.6, you may have a problem with that...but it is fairly easy to correct!

Good luck...I know I don't have any answers, but maybe some of this info will help!

Love and Health, Stephanie
