Stacy: Yes, you will have a catheter inserted while you are asleep, will probably keep it for a day or 2 after surgery. Your surgeon SHOULD have you do a 'bowel prep' prior to surgery, if he doesn't, you need to talk to him about it, because if you have bowel involvement and HAVEN'T done a bowel prep he won't be able to 'work on it' at the time of surgery.
