Re: SubClinical Hyptothyroidism with AutoImmune ThyroiditisFrom: ChinaRose (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun May 30 11:49:52 1999
Hi Stephanie, Yes, the symptoms are very similar, from what I've read, here are the differences (I'm not a doctor.. :o) ): Thyroiditis: Diagnoised by checking the "thyroid antibodies". Thyroid fails to produce the correct amount of anitbodies. Thyroid gland swells, often you will see a read patch where the thyroid it swollen. Can lead to the failure of your thyroid gland, leading to HypoThyroid and/or HyperThyroid. Most Thyroid people, have to take Thyroid medication for the rest of their lives (It's getting the right dosage that's frustrating). Some have to have their thyroid gland removed, since it fails to work and/or it continues to swell (which can lead to strangulation of the esophegus <sp> & vocal cords; last week I could not talk for 4 days and hurt to swollow). Wilsons: A testing for the T3 levels Can be arrested by taking T3 for a period of time. Well this is my understanding based on my personal experience with Thyroidsitis and what I read on Wilsons. Very interesting Stephanie, thanx. ~ ChinaRose
