Missy:
Hugs to you - sorry it is such a rough time.
I have endo and interstitial cystitis. the last few surgeries I have had
where i had a catheter, i could not go after they removed it. It is called
urinary retention. Lots of women get this after surgery.
I had to catheterize myself about every 4 hours at first, then slowly, was
able to go more and more on my own. First you try to pee, measure how much
you go, then cath yourself and measure that. With me, I peed more each day
and went longer inbetween the cath, until eventually I didn't have to cath
any more. My urologist (who is wonderful) doesn't think it has to do with my
interstitial cystitis, thinks that general anesthesia makes my bladder 'conk
out', also that having a catheter in irritates it.
Hope this helps. Feel free to email me privately. Maria (RN) in Indiana
