Re: pain managementFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon May 17 11:50:22 1999
Hi Shannon, I go to a Pain Management Specialist for chronic breast pain. If you go to http://www.asahq.org and click on "Public Education" there it will tell you in more detail how these doctors treat chronic pain. My Pain Management Specialist treats my problem with an anti-inflammatory and anticonvulsant. The reason that sometimes a Pain Management Specialist uses the anticonvulsant to turn off the pain signals from the brain to the nerve endings throughout your body. Sometimes they send a person in for Physical Therapy to see if that helps the pain. He wanted to do that for me, but I couldn't afford it, nor did I have the appropriate schedule for it. So that's why I stay on meds. Some Pain Management Specialists work in Pain clinics in a Medical School setting, and in the private setting like the one that I go to. My Pain Management Specialist has treated me well. I have been seeing him since October of last year. If you would like to hear my story about how I ended up with this specialist e-mail me privately and I will be glad to share it with you. In the mean time I hope that this helps answer your question.
