Atypical cells could mean several things: abnormal cells that were found in the pap due to infection or precancerous cells. Neither is a real big deal. One requires antibiotics to treat. The other your doctor would freeze out in a procedure called a colposcopy. (This is a very simplistic explanation). I've had abnormal cells due to a staph infection; my mom has had the other, and she's just fine.

You need to call your doctor and find out specifically what the atypical cells were and what further treatment is required. This is not something to ignore.
