Re: another questionFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSun Apr 25 07:20:08 1999
Lasinda Sorry to hear you are experiencing bad pain like you are. It does sound like you have endo symptoms, but one cannot really tell you level your endo is without looking inside to see by laparoscopy. You can have severe symptoms, and be only a stage I patient, or you may be stage IV with minimal symptoms. It is a very tricky disease. The main thing you want to do is find a doctor who is experienced with treating endometriosis. I spent 10 years going from doctor to doctor trying to find someone to listen to me, and they all pretty much told me to take Motrin and deal with the cramps. Finally I found a wonderful doctor who is an "Endo Specialist" And he did four hours of surgery back in Sept. 98. He excised stage IV endo from my ovaries, uterus, etc. and also removed bowel implants. I was pain free almost immediately, and I am also pleased to report that I was able to get pregnant as well, after 8 years of trying. I am now 8 weeks 1 day! I am so thankful to my doctor because I don't think if I had found him I would have been able to ever get pregnant! So that is why it is so important to find the right doc from the beginning. Make sure that he/she is a experienced endo/surgeon that is the most important thing, because you can wind up in worse shape than you started is you don't have someone who knows what they are doing. Also make sure that they listen to your wants and needs as a patient. If you want to have a baby now, tell him you want treatment that will facilitate that outcome. Birth Control pills may slow down your endo, but as soon as you go off, it will flare up again. As far as I am concerned (this is my personal opinion) any doc. who is a good endo doc, would reccomend a diagnostic lap. to see if you do indeed have endo, if that is the case then, excise the endo at the same time. Since you have a 4 history of infertility he/she should also run tests like: sperm analysis for you husband, HSG (dye test) to see if you ovaries are clear, Post Coital Test (to make sure your mucus is not killing off his sperm), Endometrial Biopsy (to see how good the lining of your uterus is for an egg to implant) He may also make you do three months of charting your temperature to make sure you are ovulating before you get into all those infertility tests. So those are the types of things you are looking for in a doc. Anyway I hope this is of help, and that you will soon be pain free Chris
