Re: Re; Help with questionsFrom: Bobbi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Mar 31 07:05:43 1999
Hi there...I too had a hysterectomy last year and my Dr. left my ovaries. I think I can say that he did what he thought was best at the time. I am only 30 years old and he told me that if he took my ovaries out, I would have to go on hormones. Then he told me that hormone treatment is basically a trial and error type of drug and you never know what will work for you or if anything would. He told me that since I was so young, he could remove everything else to help relieve my pain and my 10-15 day "HEAVY" periods. Which did relieve my pain. Until a couple of weeks ago, I did live pain free. Unfortuantly, the endo is back. Lower back pain, ovarian cramps...etc...you know what I am talking about. I also watched the hysterectomy online yesterday at AHN.com and the Dr. was removing at 35 year old womans ovaries. Bascially he said that she will have to go on estrogen because the lack of estrogen could cause major health problems. Ok..here is my question..if they remove your ovaries due to endo, they put you in a menapause state. Then, they supplement what your ovaries do with "chemicals". Doesnt that defeat the purpose of taking your ovaries out? Wouldnt estrogen cause your endo to return?? I am just confused. Anyone with suggestions would be helpful because I am now at a point where I need to do something.
