Re: AdhesionsFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netFri Mar 26 20:58:07 1999
Dear Anne, Adhesions are just a part of endo- what happens is that every month when your body sheds your uterine lining, the spots of endo outside of your uterus also try to shed, but since they have nowhere to go, it irritates the surrounding organs, causing adhesions, which is a big name for scar tissue. I was diagnosed with endo last Oct. after about a year of horrible, tugging pain on the left side of my pelvic area, and the laporoscopy showed that I had several adhesions from my bowels to my uterus on the left side, which explained the pain. I have pictures of them and what they basically look like are thin, fibrous strings, almost like a spider web. There shouldn't be any worry for making the adhesions worse by surgery if your doc knows what he/she is doing, but I have heard of certain types of oil like substances that can be put in your pelvis during surgery just to make sure that surgery related adhesions won't occurr. I don't think adhesions are related to the severity of endo, because I didn't have many endo spots but I had many adhesions. (Which was the source of all my pain!) Sorry this is so long. If you want to talk more, feel free to e-mail me! Holly in S.C.
