Re: Lupron Cost / InsuranceFrom: Holly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Feb 28 11:26:18 1999
Rebecca, I haven't been following all the emails regarding insurance and lupron, etc., but just read this one and it got my attention. I am currently taking continuous bcps, but was considering taking Lupron a few months ago. At that time I investigated my insurance company's policy. I am a grad student with the student health plan at the university. We don't have a prescription plan, but we do have a pharmacy where we can get discounted meds. The insurance company considers Lupron to be a prescription, not a treatment and therefore it would not be covered if I decided to take it, although there are ways of protesting this. Even though you can protest it I was told that it probably would not be covered by the insur. company. In addition, our student pharmacy has only a limited number of drugs available which do not include Lupron and several other drugs that I take for endo pain (Darvocet, Trilisate). Until I started having my endo pain a year ago I thought it was a pretty good health plan, but it's not. Unfortunately most students have similar health plans at all universities; they are good as long as you're not sick! I find this terribly frustrating. So many young women are probably suffering because they are receiving care from such organizations. I look forward to graduation and the possibility of a job just so I can shop around for a better health plan. Good luck with your article; let me know if I can clarify any of what I wrote.
