Re: LAPOROTOMY RECOVERY? What can I expect?

I know I am probably one of the few, but my laporotomy was not as bad as
I expected. I went in for an outpt surgery just suppose to have a
laporoscopy. I was in the hospital for 2 1/2 days and the pain was not
bad. I did not tolerate demerol. The pain was like a throbbing pain at
the incision and felt very bloated. Usually with any kind of
abdominal/lower abdominal surgery you have a lot of gas. I was back at
work after 2 weeks!! I asked my doctor at my suture removal appt (4 days
post op) when I could lift my nephew(23 pds.) At the time he was
visiting with us. He was about 15 months at the time. My doctor did
not have any problem with me doing this as long as I didn't have any
pain. The best thing that helped my recooperate was taking short walks
either outside or around the house throughout the day. I also started
taking a course of vitamins months prior to my surgery. (Especially
Vitamin E). I don't know for sure if it helped, but in comparison to
others this was not as bad as I expected. Good Luck and think
positive!!!!
