Yes, everyone having surgery does indeed get catheterized. You can ask your surgeon to prescribe a mild antibiotic for a day or two after surgery to prevent an infection. This does not always work. I developed a bladder & kidney infection after my c-section and was on IV antibiotics for 24 hours, (I also had a catheter for 24 hours +). Normally for such a short period of time, antibiotics would prevent one. Kelley H
